PRESSING STRANGE MYSTERIES AGAIN

GREYWOOD ARTS, CORK

APRIL 2025

Pressing strange mysteries again was an experimental installation process I undertook during a residency at Greywood Arts, Cork in April 2025. My interest was to engage the space and the works in communion, allowing the spaces natural architecture to dictate the placement of works and how much or how little was needed.   I have been researching and creating with the (part) intention to map ‘othered’ Irish female archetypal icons associated with death, loss and healing; through the creation of semi-fictional figures, hybrids and symbolism to examine how heritage, ancestry and place can be reclaimed and reimagined as sites of care and resistance.   I am using the archetype of the ’Banshee’ and its associated folklore to, in a way ‘work through’ (process) the personal experiencing of loss, grief/repressed grief and trauma and well as speaking to a broader narrative.    The works are labour intensive, using various methods of construction to deconstruction, layering, ritual and touch in the making process in an effort to connect with care and reverence towards the works and their associated narratives and symbolism.
